axis and the environment

Print is, by definition, a consumer industry but we are all trying to do our bit to reduce the damage we cause to the environment. At Axis we take this responsibility very seriously and have taken steps to ensure that we work as “greenly” as possible...

At the outset, when we were researching pre-press systems, we took a conscious decision to install processless platemaking, an innovation within the industry. Traditional systems require a plate processor to develop plates after outputting, using additional electricity and harmful chemicals. Our Fujifilm system outputs plates in the normal way but these are then developed on press, thereby eliminating this stage and saving both power and chemical products. Less wasteful, cleaner and more efficient.

Our vegetable inks are more eco-friendly than traditional oil based inks, in both their production and disposal. They are also gentler on the skin so are kinder to our operators. The colours are just as vibrant and long-lasting – but produced more naturally.

The papers that we use all come from managed, sustainable forests and are chlorine free – totally recyclable, biodegradable and acid-free. Most are also FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certified.

Like most other printers we recycle all our waste paper and plates. Unlike most other printers we will also collect your waste paper (depending on location). If we’re delivering direct to you (ie not via a carrier) we’ll pick up any unwanted print you have left and recycle it for you.

But we won’t stop there. We’re constantly on the lookout for new initiatives that will help to clean up our industry and we’ll continue to implement changes on an ongoing basis.
